How To Use Recovery Mode

Recovery Mode offers a solution for recovering the hub's operating system in the event of technical issues, such as when the Configuration Interface becomes inaccessible after an update.

With Recovery Mode, you have the option to either repair the system or return it to its original default configuration, effectively restoring it to its initial state.

 

To safeguard your data during firmware updates, the hub maintains two separate copies of the system, known as System A and System B. The update process is always carried out on the inactive system, after which the hub switches to it. This method ensures that a copy of your data from before the update is preserved. If any issues arise, you have the capability to switch back to the previous system.
 

ACCESSING THE RECOVERY PAGE FROM THE WEB UI

 

1. Click on the user name located in the top right corner of the Z-Box web interface.

 

 

2. Select Recovery Mode from the drop-down menu.

 

 

3. You will be asked to confirm you want to enter into recovery mode. Click Yes to proceed or No to cancel.

 

 

4. The hub will start rebooting in order to switch to recovery mode. Once the hub's LED turns solid green, you will be redirected to the recovery page.

 

 

 

ACCESSING THE RECOVERY PAGE (initiated from the Z-box hub)

 

This is the only way to access the Recovery Page if the WebUI is unresponsive after a firmware upgrade. 

 

  1. Unplug the power supply from the hub. 
  2. Press and hold the D button located at the back of the hub. 
  3. Plug the power supply back into the hub while continuing to hold the button. The LED will turn white. 
  4. Release the button when the LED starts pulsing red. The LED will continue pulsing for about 1 minute. 
  5. Once the LED on the hub turns to solid green, navigate to the Wi-Fi settings on your computer to connect to the Z-Box network. 
  6. Open your internet browser and type in 10.42.0.1. You will be redirected to the recovery page.

  • Auto Repair
  • Reset Network Settings
  • Change System
  • Repair System
  • Recovery System
  • Factory Reset

Note: You can also enable Support Access from the Recovery page!

 

 

Auto Repair

 

This option should be used if you encounter any system issues after the firmware upgrade. It allows you to switch to the prior version of the firmware from before the last system update

 

1. Click Repair under the Auto Repair option.

 

 

2. Click Continue to repair the system, or Cancel to return to the Recovery Page.

 

 

Note: Once the Auto Repair process completes, your hub will reboot automatically. Once the hub is back online you will be prompted to log back in. 

 

Resetting Network Settings

Use this option when you experience changes in the hub’s network configuration and do not want to restore the hub to factory settings. 

 

1. Click Reset under the Reset Network Settings option.

 

 

2. Click Reset again to reset network settings, or Cancel to return to the Recovery Page.

 

 

Note: Once the Reset Network Settings process completes, your hub will reboot automatically. Once the hub is back online you will be prompted to log back in.

 

 

Change System

If you have more than one system available, you can switch between systems A and B in the situations you have issues with the current system. The option to switch between systems will become available only if you use the Repair System option at some point or have done at least one firmware upgrade.

 

1. Click Switch to System B(A) under the Change System option.

 

 

2. Click Continue to change the system, or Cancel to return to the Recovery Page.

 

 

Note: Once the Change System process completes, your hub will reboot automatically. Once the hub is back online you will be prompted to log back in.

 

 

Repair System

This option enables you to restore the operating system by either reverting it to the most recent version or selecting a specific version from a file, all without erasing any user data. It solely refreshes the system. 

 

Depending on how you access Recovery Mode, you’ll have access to different system repair options:

  • When accessed via the configuration interface, you will see an inactive system
  • When accessed using the button on the hub, you will see an active system

 

You can switch between systems to perform repairs on the other one. 

 

1. Click Repair System B(A) under the Repair System option.

 

 

2. Choose if you want to restore the latest version or use a local file and click Continue to repair the system, or Cancel to return to the Recovery Page.

 

 

Note: Once the Repair System process completes, your hub will reboot automatically. Once the hub is back online you will be prompted to log back in.  

 

 

Recover System

This functionality permits you to reset the operating system to either the most recent version or a specific version from a file, erasing all associated data from your system, including users, devices, scenes, and more. 

 

Depending on your method of accessing Recovery Mode, you will encounter distinct system recovery options: 

  • an inactive system when entered through the configuration interface 
  • an active one when initiated using the D button. 

 

Switch between systems to perform recovery on the other one. 

 

Warning: If not backed up, the configuration will be lost and you will not be able to recover it.

 

1. Click Recover System A(B) under the Recovery System option.

 

 

2. Choose if you want to restore the latest version or use a local file and click Continue to recover the system, or Cancel to return to the Recovery Page.

 

 

Note: Once the Recover process completes, your hub will reboot automatically. Once the hub is back online you will be prompted to log back in.  

 

 

Factory Reset

This functionality enables you to reset the hub to its original factory settings. This action entails the restoration of the factory software version and the complete deletion of all data from both system A and system B, including users. Devices, and more. 1. Click the Factory Reset button on the menu bar.

 

 

2. Acknowledge that you want to proceed by checking the Box and clicking on Reset

 

 

Note: Once the Factory Reset process completes, your hub will reboot automatically. Once the hub is back online you will be prompted to log back in.
