Z-Box Console: Why it's There
print icon

The Z-Box hub Web interface features a console, which is a real-time log of events happening on the hub during various operations: adding or removing a Z-Wave device, changing parameters, configuring the device, setting associations, and more.

The console is capable of offering in-depth insights into active operations within the Z-Wave network, scenes, and Quick Apps. In essence, this console consolidates all messages generated by methods like “error”, “done”, "print," "debug," "trace," and "warning," regardless of their source—be it Z-Wave, a scene, or Quick Apps.

You can open the console to review the most recent messages, or you can keep it open while including/excluding the device from the network. Any event generating an error, warning, or done message will be displayed on the console. The messages displayed on the console can help you with device or process troubleshooting.

ACCESSING THE CONSOLE:

From the sidebar navigation menu of the Z-Box web interface, click on the Console icon (located right underneath the Setting icon).

This will open the Console view at the bottom of the screen.

MAIN ELEMENTS OF THE CONSOLE

See the screenshot below for a description of the main elements of the console.

UTILIZING TAGS FOR ENHANCED CONSOLE MANAGEMENT:

Console logs often contain a multitude of messages, not all of which are relevant at a given moment. To streamline the process of locating specific messages within the log, we can use tags.

Tags and Quick Apps: Quick Apps automatically generate tags, such as "QUICKAPP263," where 263 corresponds to the Quick App's ID. You have the flexibility to create new tags as needed.

Tags and Scenes: Scenes default to using a tag derived from the scene ID, for example, "SCENE41." Consequently, any console output originating from that scene will be tagged as "SCENE" followed by the scene ID.

Tags and Z-Wave: When dealing with Z-Wave devices, filtering console logs becomes particularly useful during operations like adding, removing, or reconfiguring. Setting the tag to "Z-Wave" ensures that only messages related to Z-Wave actions will be displayed in the console.

Important: filtering using a tag is only possible after the initial use of that specific tag. Therefore, if you wish to capture operations performed with a particular tag, it's essential to send a test message first, enabling you to select the desired tag.
