How To Remove Devices From Your Z-Box Hub

Removing your Z-Wave device from the Z-Box Hub may be necessary if the device didn't configure properly and isn't behaving as expected. It's also a useful feature when Z-Wave inclusion fails and a device that had never been added to your hub before, refuses to pair. Rather than performing factory reset, simply put your hub in exclusion mode and activate the device for a Z-Wave reset.

Please note that the first part of article talks about Z-Wave exclusion of devices currently added to your Z-Box hub and new devices that fail to successfully add to the system during the pairing process. If you have a phantom device on your network or a failed node, please scroll down to the second part of the article that talks about force removing your device from the Z-Box Hub instead. Both actions can only be performed from the WEB UI. The Z-Box Hub mobile app currently doesn't support device exclusion or force removal.

NOTE: If the device you are trying to remove is part of an existing scene or it is used in voice skills, it is recommended for the device to be removed from the scene/skill app first before proceeding with the exclusion process. If this step is skipped the scene or group automation might get affected and won’t work properly.

How to remove / exclude a device from your Z-Box Hub

1. From the sidebar navigation menu of the Z-Box web interface, go to Settings by clicking on the gear icon.

2. You will be redirected to the Devices menu.

3. Click the red - Remove device button in the top right corner.

4. Select the Z-Wave Device option.

5. Get ready to activate your Z-Wave device and click Start.

6. Follow the exclusion/removal steps for your Z-Wave device specified in the manufacturer’s instructions (clicking a button, tapping a switch paddle, etc).

How to force remove a failed node or a lost device from your Z-Box Hub

Please note that force removing a device from your hub doesn't actually exclude the device from the network. It simply removes the device from the device list in the interface. Please do NOT perform forced exclusion if the device still successfully communicates with the system. Once you force remove a device from your hub, you will need to perform a factory reset on it or exclude it according to the above instructions before you're able to add it to your hub again.

NOTE: If the device you are trying to force remove is part of an existing scene or it is used in voice skills, it is recommended for the device to be removed from the scene/skill app first before proceeding with the exclusion process. If this step is skipped the scene or group automation might get affected and won’t work properly.

1. From the sidebar navigation menu of the Z-Box web interface, go to Settings by clicking on the gear icon.

2. You will be redirected to the Devices menu.

3. Click on the trash bin icon next to the device you want to remove from the system.

4. Select the Force remove option.

5. You will see an indication that the forced removal has started and finished. The device will be removed from the list of devices.
